Gary Snyder’s Thought Cascade in the Fire Tower

Jack’s full of bullshit so far,

but his laugh excuses it.

I come to the mountains in search of the smaller voices.

They rise to find me, for their own reasons.

There is Alone, and then there’s Alone—

you have to walk through one to find the other.

Jack’s bringing his hip city hustle to this outpost

to level out the noise and the silence.

I’m carrying the fire I found here

everywhere I go.
